Onderstaand een stukje over Peterson's pijpen uit Ierland, ik heb de tekst letterlijk overgenomen uit het boekje the Pipe Companion van David Wright.

                              IRELAND
Pipe making in Ireland is largely a cottage industry. Pipe shapes have changed little over the years. In general Irish pipes are small and classic, with a full-bent shape.
                              PETERSON
Peterson of Dublin is one of the oldest names in briar pipes. Peterson began as a small tobacco shop in 1865. Friedrich and Heinrich Kapp opened Kapp Brothers as a place to puchase meerschaum and briarroot pipes.
Charles Peterson, a pipemaker, approached the brothers with a new pipe design and a plan to form a partnership. Th ebrothers agreed and Kapp&Peterson was born.
Kapp&Peterson became Dublin's most respected pipe and tobacco manufacturer. In 1890, Peterson invented the nowfamous Peterson's Patent Smoking System pipe. This pipe was designed to contain an interior secondary bowl or reservoir in the shank, trapping condensed tobacco moisture from the smoke and giving the smoker a cooler and drier smoke.
In 1898, Peterson invented the Peterson Lip mouthpiece, which directed the smoke up and away from the tongue. This pipe reduced
the amount of salvia entering the stem and provide a contoured fit for the mouth.
Today, the many styles and shapes of Peterson pipes are very traditional in nature and are wonderful representations of pipes from the nineteenth century. Each year, Peterson presents a limited edition set of pipes crafted by their master craftsmen.
